Dublin, USA
Dublin, USA examines the aftermath of the Irish economic miracle (the so-called “Celtic Tiger”) of the last decade. During this remarkable run, Ireland experienced unprecedented growth, higher incomes, more jobs, higher exports, reverse immigration, and greater diversity. A country that had seen large-scale emigration, severe famine, and declining population suddenly woke up to find itself an economic powerhouse. While the boom clearly transformed Ireland's national self-image, as the signs of Irishness continue to vanish under the force of globalization exactly what it means to be Irish is suddenly unclear. The film documents the disappearance of traditional Ireland and looks at the country's makeover into an American-style consumer culture. 60 minutes
